Having your own laptop makes a lot of good things to work on easy. But wouldn't it be too ambitious even to imagine, that your laptop (or netbook) can power autonomous robots? Imagine no more, because it's real and it's here! Netbook-powered robots are already running errands for their masters (watch video here).

RoBe:Do, the creator of three autonomous robots, Coppa, Silvio and Three, made use of a netbook that act the as the brain or the central processor of the robots. Coppa and Silvio are intended to act as platforms for greater owner customizations. Each robot is capable of carrying a 12V rechargeable battery, autofocus webcam and sonar system, and netbook “brain”, and a variety of accessories including motion, heat and humidity sensors, servo-driven grabbing actuators.

Three is the latest model of RoBe:Do and it works faster than the other two robots. Three is also a modular chassis that carries all of its accessories including the netbook and 8 or 16 rechargeable NiMH 9.6V batteries. Into its system you can plug an optional three-sensor digital IR navigation array, for autonomous control, or any number of USB sensors, webcams, I/O controllers and other gadgets to adapt the platform. And to make these robots function, connect the USB to the netbook.
