Nao Sees, Speaks, Interacts and Surfs the Web

naorobot

In the robotic language, humanoid is literally a common term. It is already very common nowadays, and seemingly humanoids, if not for artificial intelligence would not do any good but for display.

The only good thing about robots is that we (humans) are able to use them in making our lives better. Thanks to continuous innovation, we get to see robots do many things, ultimately to entertain us.

Nao robots, are but amazing. They may not appear like humans, but they certainly can make us feel better. Nao's technical description includes two CMOS 640 x 480 cameras, which can capture up to 30 images per second; an algorithm is integrated in its vision to interpret faces and shapes.

Nao reacts to touch via capacitative sensor. It communicates through infrared receptors in its eyes in order to connect to its environment locally, and remotely via WIFI systems. Moreover, one can customize Nao's interface modules with OpenCV (the Open Source Computer Vision library initially developed by Intel).

Nao robots were first exhibited at the 2009 International Robot Exhibition (iREX 2009).
