The National Aeronautics and Space Agency or NASA is all geared-up for the 2010 FIRST Robotics design and build competition which will kick-off on Saturday, January 9, 2010.

FIRST was first founded in Manchester, NH back in 1989 with Dean Kamer as the founder. FIRST started its robotics competition in a high school in Manchester with over 150,000 participants. Today, it is supported by 3,000 corporations and institutions.

The Kickoff event of Saturday will commence the design and build season. In the stated venue, teams are given opportunity to meet with others to compare notes, get ideas, make acquaintances, find mentoring teams, pick up the Kit of Parts, and get ready for the much awaited competition season.

The FIRST kick-off competition estimates 1,800 teams to join with over 45,000 participants from the high school category alone. Robots will be developed in 6 weeks with all the kit parts provided by FIRST. And the FIRST Robotics Competition Championship will be held at the FIRST Championship in Atlanta, GA, on April 15-17, 2010.

Several activities line up for the event on Saturday, but a day before that will be packed with workshops, Founder's reception, motivating speeches, and a tasty buffet party.
