Robovie Goes Shopping with Grandma

In response to a very significant statistics of seniors in Japan, Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International or ATR developed a robot that will come to the aid of grandma whenever needed.
Robots, in Japan are essentially making a great deal in helping out seniors do their tasks. They are quiet good in helping the old folks carry out their daily tasks. like shopping.
Robovie, is ATR's three-foot tall intelligent robot capable of recognizing objects, talking and responding to their users, and of course, carry those heavy shopping bags for grandma.
The robot is currently on a special testing at the Apita-Seikadai supermarket in Kyoto until March 2010. Robovie and its associated system also capable of monitoring Grandma's health and even suggests helpful dishes to improve health.
In a demonstration, Robovie accompanies a 67-year old woman in a grocery store. The robot cheerfully makes suggestions to the woman as she picks some mandarin oranges and brocolli.
