Pneumatic Powered Robot Walks with Oxygen-Tubing Legs

A robot that walks with 24 hospital oxygen-tubing legs was built by Monica Anderson and has won two first prizes, Best demo and best presentation.
This robot’s leg is controlled by a Mac Mini using Emacs and C (GCC) are the programming software. It took Monica 5 weekends to completely build the robot.
The robot uses 24 solenoid valves which are 24 volts each and test set-up manifold (each channel requires six solenoids).
The robot has three sets of eight legs with one set split into front and rear sections. Every leg of this robot has three bendable tubes that can be strengthen or shortened with the use of air or vacuum thus, making the legs to turn to any direction.
The end of the tubes legs are sealed with drinking water bottle caps. A tie is used to wrap three tubes to form a leg. Sixteen of the legs are at full pressure to carry the entire weight of the robot. And the rest of the legs are used to let the robot move. This robot can walk about one meter per minute.
You will surely love to see this robot walking, with accompanying whirring sounds.
