Robovie mR2: The Robot with an iPod Touch for a Heart
A smaller and "cuter" version of Robovie R2, which is primarily developed by Reo Matsumura, has been unveiled by ATR (Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute) Intelligent Robotics & Communications Lab. The Robovie mR2 is a robot which works by popping an iPod Touch into it, at which point you'll be able to control it either via the touchscreen or over Wi-Fi.
The Robovie-mR2 actually looks cute on your desktop and is small enough to fit perfectly on your desk. It stands only 30cm (about 1 foot) tall, weighs 2kg (4.4 lbs) and has an iPod Touch dock in its chest. It comes equipped with a super-compact CCD camera, 2 microphones, and a speaker for its communication purposes.
It has 18 degrees of freedom including moving eyeballs (2 eyes x3; head x 3; 2 arms x4; waist x1) and is powered by 2 JR Propo DS-326 servo motors, 4 Vstone VS-281J servos, and 2 Futaba S3102 servos.
