schematic for rf transmitter and receiver?

I'm working on a project to build a simple rf transmitter and receiver without the use of a microcontroller. However, I can't seem to find schematics to construct the above mentioned circuits, I can only find IR transmitters, AM or FM transmitters, but can't seem to come across matching transmitters and receivers. Would appreciate it if anyone could suggest some gd links or provide some reference schematic diagrams. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
