Do You Believe in Free Will?
Amanda H asked:
FREE WILL: Who's Will and Why are We Freeing him? I was watching a video on youtube that made me think maybe... "Choices" that you make in life are not really your choices. Your decisions are only based on your own personal experiences. Everything you do is just the product of some other "choice" that you made that was the product of something else...and so on. Basically it's all based on cause and effect. You may think that your choosing not to do something, but the real fact of the matter is that you thought back to a previous similar situation and the effect of that is the reason you may choose not to do whatever it is that your doing, or vice versa. From the time you are born, things that you experience from the process of cause and effect, shape who you are as an individual and have you programmed. We are basically biological machines, robots. Much like computers, we make "decisions" based on inputs and actions. While I may or may not agree with this wholeheartedly, I still think that it is an interesting theory

Even so, you are still the one making the “choices”. There is no one to blame or praise but yourself. The decisions are yours to make. The belief of no free will is merely an excuse to escape responsibility for actions taken.

there is some truth in this theory…
our previous choices and actions do effect what we do but they don’t have control… they shape and form who we are but we are still ourselves. that can’t not be lost to circumstance. we still choice. we have the ability to reason and therefore we take into account previous happenings and make decisions thus based.

dude. i have been thinking that forever.
everytime i told someone we didn’t have free will they tried to prove me wrong.
your exactly right.
except i think (and maybe you ment the same thing) that our choices are also influenced by how our individual brains function. if you know what i mean.
basically we are just going along for a ride. haha.
