What is the effect of different sensor sizes?

I see cameras advertised as full frame sensors. I understand that there is a difference in sizes and that most digital cameras have smaller than full frame sensors and that this causes an issue with focal magnification. What I don't understand is why it matters? What's the real benefit of a full frame sensor? Does it only really have an impact for people using wide angle lenses? Thanks in advance.

Bigger sensor means you do not have to squeeze the pixels as close together, The size of the individual photodetectors ( pixels) plays a huge role in the final image quality. The individual pixels can be larger,It determines the maximum electrical charge they’re able to measure Larger Pixels gives you more light to each pixel. More light to each pixel = better color saturation, better dynamic range, better geometric accuracy and lower noise.

My understanding is that the bigger sensor will result in less noise when taking a picture in the low light with high ISO setting ( e.g. at ISO 800 or more). Reason being, high ISO, the pixel are more sensitive to light and can get interference from adjacent pixels, resulting in noise. With bigger sensor, they are placed apart at more distance and are less likely to catch the interference.
You will see that the camera’s with bigger sensor are usually more expensive and are usually high end cameras.
